My Check Is In the Mail

Today is my lucky day! I received an email that says that I have been chosen to receive a $5,000,000 reward. All I have to do is provide the sender with information on how to access my checking account so that they can deposit my check.

Only Fools Rush In

It is my lucky day because I am not foolish enough to believe the scam. Yet there are many people who fall for these deceptions. That is why the fraudulent emails continue. Some people foolishly respond only to find their checking accounts hacked and empty.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

Everyone is looking for the shortcut to success and riches. As Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise" -- there is no shortcut. Yes, one in one hundred million will win the lottery and most of them are broke within five years after they won. Money that comes too easily goes too easily.

Steve and Steve

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were not successful overnight; it took years, failures, frustration, and out-of-the-box thinking for them to realize their dreams. If you have a chance, read Walter Isaacson's book, "Steve Jobs," and you will discover that it was the journey that made Jobs' and Wozniak's lives interesting and fulfilling.

Step By Step

The sure way to success is to know where you are going, and then set out on the journey one step at a time. Through daily efforts and the ticking of the clock, you will be well on your way to the top.

The Drive

When I was 16 years old, my brother-in-law was a pilot in the United States Air Force, based in Sacramento. He and my sister decided to take me and my younger sister for a visit to their home in California.

Along The Way

When I heard that we were going to California, I could hardly wait to get to Sacramento. Little did I know that the real thrill of the journey was the journey itself. We stopped at Carlsbad Caverns, the Painted Desert, the Grand Canyon, and many fantastic stops along the way. Arriving in Sacramento was almost anti-climactic.

Enjoy the Journey

When I opened my advertising agency in 1972, I realized that all the years that I spent dreaming and planning were as much fun and fulfilling as opening my doors for business on June 21, 1972. It was the journey that I enjoyed.

The Greatest Tenor Ever

The "Journey Principle" applies to all the areas of our lives. My wife and I were excited about seeing and hearing in person the late great opera singer Luciano Pavarotti. We made reservations to see him at the San Francisco Opera House, and we spent a week in San Francisco prior to his performance. We enjoyed our week in San Francisco as much as we enjoyed seeing the great tenor perform.

Stop Microwave Mentality

Thank goodness for delays in gratification. It causes us to appreciate the experience and to acquire patience. Many of us lack patience in this microwave-mentality society that we live in. Set the goal, be patient, and enjoy the journey. You will savor and appreciate the stops along the way.
