The "Lazy Boy" Syndrome

You live in a world filled with unlimited opportunity and abundance. The world is waiting for you to shake off your lethargy, get out of your "Lazy Boy" and take action.

Get Moving and Get Rich

Opportunity does not knock on your door; you must make the effort to knock on opportunity's door. Even after the door is open, you must move forward through the portal -- to step over the threshold.

Massive Effort = Massive Success

Opportunity and abundance take effort, often massive effort. Even the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow must be loaded on a truck to be carted away before it will benefit you.

Know What You Want

The problem with many people is that they do not know what they want on the other side of the door. They have not yet defined what they are seeking. It is not fun working toward a nebulous goal; there is no excitement in going to nowhere land.

Dirty Money

And it is not about dirty green pieces of paper to put in your wallet or purse. You must be focused on what those dirty green pieces of paper can accomplish. Without a compelling reason to do so, you have no reason to expend the energy to knock on or walk through the door.

Quiet Desperation

If you arise each morning simply to earn more green stuff in your paycheck, and then repeat the process again and again for the rest of your life, you will not be motivated to earn more. It is no wonder that most people live lives of quiet desperation, existing day-to-day with no joy of accomplishment.


Here is an exercise that can change your life and open the door to opportunity and abundance. It will work only if you follow my G-T-R-R-W-W formula (You have Got To Really Really Wanna Wanna). Most will say that they really want to, but they are not willing to make a gut level commitment, to taking steps necessary to accomplish their goals.

Over The Wall Success

Imagine that you are sitting in a comfortable chair facing a 30-foot high wall that extends beyond the horizon to your left and to your right. Directly in front of you is a large oak door built into the wall, and there is a large, bronze leonine door knocker, hanging on the center of the door. A sign above the door knocker reads Opportunity, and below the door knocker, another sign reads Unlimited Abundance.

Never Go Back

See yourself getting up from your chair and walking toward the door and reaching for the bronze door knocker. The door knocker is heavier than you thought it would be, so you contemplate returning to the comfort of your Lazy Boy chair. Instead, you decide to double your efforts and to use two hands instead of one.

Knock Three Times

You knock once, but there is no answer. You knock again and wait patiently, but still no answer. You are ready to give up, but something you heard on motivation prompts you to try again.

Believe Your Eyes

Suddenly you hear a squeak as the door slowly opens. You cannot believe your eyes because on the other side of the door is something that you Really, Really, Wanna, Wanna have, be, or do.

Good Morning And Good Night

Whatever you see on the other side of the door will be the first thing you see when you arise each morning and the last thing you think about each night before you sleep.

I Opened the Door

I was 20 years old when I opened the oak door, and I envisioned an advertising agency behind the door. My passion was to own and operate an advertising agency. Seven years after crossing over the threshold, I opened an advertising agency that became one of the most successful agencies in Kentucky and Louisiana.

As I write this article, I am sitting in my sunroom overlooking the pond in my back yard, a realization of what I had envisioned. Many years ago, I bought a book "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau. On the jacket of the book was a picture of Walden's Pond, the setting of Thoreau's book. The image was so impressionable that I set a goal that one day I would live on a small pond. Today, I live in a home with a similar view; my vision has become a reality.

Try Again, and Again, and Again

If you do not envision something beyond the door that you want to have, be, or do, persist until you do. A blank scene indicates the necessity to visualize your goal in order to achieve it.

Thirty Days to Fulfillment

Practice this exercise every day for thirty days, and then repeat it for another thirty days. Eventually, your mind will be operating on automatic pilot until you carry the image in your subconscious mind. There it will act as a magnet, drawing to you the necessary experiences, knowledge, and elements that are required to make this all important journey.

What You See Is What You Get

What you see behind your door can be anything from travel, a new car, a new home, to building a new wing on your house of worship, or to funding a church mission trip.

What are you waiting for? There is an unlimited world of adventure and achievement waiting for you behind the oak door. All you have to do is get up, knock, and walk through.
